UPDATED OPEN HHSMB PARENT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

(Susie Schmitz)

The quality of our students’ experience depends upon your participation. We have a great group of experienced parents to help you along the way!

No prior experience needed - just a desire to help.

Currently available ~

Marching Season Positions (August to November)

ü  General Concessions Co-Chair – Liaison between concession leads – Snack shack, BBQ, Nachos and Potatoes, Oversee food permitting, setup, Make sure that each lead has everything in place for each football game and to troubleshoot any issues that may come up during the game

ü  Truck Driver #2 - We will be renting not one, but two 26' trucks from Monarch this year.  Since these are just two-axle vehicles, a regular driver’s license and nerves of steel are all that are required (just kidding, it's not that hard to drive the truck).

ü  BBQ Co-Chair – plan quantities, purchase, oversee volunteers, will work with the current, experienced Chairperson.

ü  Recycling Advocate – Recycling at events, football games, well established program

Yearlong Positions

ü  Hospitality – Liaison for HHS/District events such as related to school staff, school exchanges, district events, Faculty payday luncheon on Friday in late March or early April

ü  Cell & Ink Jet Recycling – Collect and deliver/send for redemption

ü  Equipment Maintenance – Assess equipment maintenance needs including 2 golf carts, trailer and podium

ü  Hornblower Editor – solicit articles, format, oversee printing, mostly at home position

Please contact Susie Schmitz at HHSMBvolunteer@gmail.com  to volunteer for one of the positions or for more information.  Thanks!!

FIRST BRASS AND WOODWIND REHEARSAL TUESDAY JULY 2ND

 and so it begins……!

We have our first Brass and Woodwind rehearsal next Tuesday!

Contrary to rumors, these Tuesday practices are for ALL marchers, not just new marchers.   We are learning new movements and warm-ups, and helping the new marchers with their technique as well as introducing them to the rest of the marching band family.    Please let your section leaders know if you can’t make it.  It will save them the time spent looking for you.

Just a reminder to all:

        Brass and Woodwinds:

                   Tuesdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30:

     9am - 12pm Music Rehearsal

4:30 - 8:30pm Visual Rehearsal

BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT (personalized music folders, to be used for the entire school year will be distributed, containing your warm up packets)

BRING A WATER BOTTLE FILLED WITH WATER!!!

WEAR A HAT!!!  – we don’t need fried brains

WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! – if you think it’s tough carrying a tuba on your bare shoulder now, just try it with sunburned shoulders.

WEAR SOCKS AND THICK SOLED ATHLETIC SHOES – absolutely NO SANDALS

smart music up and running for marching band 2013!

Have you all gotten into SmartMusic?  Are you having issues?  Time to work them out!

Don’t panic if you haven’t seen the music.  Your section leaders and section mates will help you thru it.  You’ll all learn it together at these Tuesday practices.

But it would be to your advantage to get into SmartMusic and learn how it works!

Read the documents located in the music booster website to learn about SmartMusic and how to acquire it:

SmartMusic 2012 steps you thru the purchase and installing of the application.

SmartMusic Parent FAQ’s will answer the most common questions asked.

These documents are located in the music booster web page, url

http://www.hhs.fuhsd.org/forms

Students should go to the following link: http://www.smartmusic.com/products/students/

  1.  Once you have downloaded the software, you will need to activate the subscription and create a login.
  2.  Once you have done that, you will need to login and select Homestead High School as your school.
  3.  Following that, you will need to enroll in the Marching Band class under Mr. Weingartner's name.
  4.  Once you are in the Marching Band class you will have access to the field show music to practice!

Summer is the best time to get familiar and acclimated to SmartMusic because it will be used regularly throughout the school year for playing assignments.

CHECK OUT YOUR INSTRUMENTS BY TUESDAY, JULY 2ND

Ummm, you need an instrument to play if you’re having rehearsals.

If you have not checked out your mellophone, marching baritone, or sousaphone yet, make sure you do so before Tuesday.   I will be in the band room from 6:30 AM (yes, that’s morning) until 8:30 PM this Thursday, Friday, and next Monday.   Print out the instrument check out form on the booster website , found under http://www.homestead-music.org/forms.    Complete the lower portion and bring the form along with a check for $50 made payable to HHSMB.    We will find you a horn to play.

Please contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if you have any questions.

INSTRUMENT LOCKER USAGE

We are changing the way instrument lockers are assigned.   Once you check out a locker, that locker will be yours to use until you graduate from the music program.  So if you come in as a Freshman, you will use the same locker and have the same combination for all 4 years.  Returning marchers, you can use your lockers now.   New marchers, you can use any unlocked and empty locker for now.   Some time in August I will announce the day when you can check out a locker.   Keep reading those email blasts!
