05-29 HHSMB Blast May 29

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to another exciting year of Band and Color Guard activities at Homestead High School! We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Kick-off Potluck on Saturday, August 17th at 6:00pm. There is a lot of important information included in this year’s forms packet, so please read all of the forms carefully. You will notice some changes to the packet this year – the first being the method of delivery. All forms are now posted on the Music Booster Website - http://www.homestead-music.org/fall2013  - and should be printed out and completed at home.

Completed forms are due by June 28, 2013 and should be mailed to:

            Homestead High School Music Boosters

            1669 Hollenbeck Ave. #2-222

            Sunnyvale, CA 94087

The biggest change to the band packet is that some of the forms have been modified in order to meet the guidelines provided by the California Department of Education regarding allowable expenses that may be charged for band field trips (competition expenses).  The HHS Music Boosters has modified its fee structure and is also soliciting contributions to offset other band expenses not covered. The new fee structure is as follows:

1.    Costs associated with the marching band field trips (band camp and field show trips/excursions) will continue to be collected as Music Booster fees in the same manner as in the past.  To insure that all who wish to participate will not be denied due to financial reasons, the existing Financial Assistance Program will be maintained.

2.    The purchase and maintenance costs of band uniforms, instruments, and equipment are paid by the Music Boosters and are provided to the students.  Your contributions cover the costs of these items and are considered a donation and are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

3.    Discretionary personal items such as Band Jackets and Field Show-T Shirts will not be part of the Booster fees or the uniform/instrument/equipment contribution and shall be paid for by the student/parents.

The Scrip Program will function as it has in the past and scrip credits may be used for Music Booster fees and discretionary items, but not for the uniform/instrument/equipment contribution or membership dues.

Historically, Music Boosters fundraising efforts provide in excess of $42,000 per year used to offset all student expenses.  Without these funds, needed donations would be considerably higher in order to maintain the excellent quality of the band program.  The remaining cost of the program (in excess of $200,000) is covered by student/parent contributions.  The Music Boosters will continue to provide fundraising programs for parents/students to participate in, which the Boosters share the profits with the students, thereby enabling significant student contribution offset.

If you have any questions regarding any of the forms or information included in this packet, please contact Kelly Giannini at treasurer@homestead-music.org or Chuck McDowell at cpsmcd@aol.com.
