WIND SYMPHONY AUSTRIA TOUR 2014 INFORMATION MEETING JAN 16TH

(John Burn)

Thanks to the excellent reputation of the Homestead Wind Ensemble, we have the opportunity to participate in a performance tour of Austria, from July 3-14, 2014! We would participate in the Summa Cum Laude Festival in Vienna, the Mid Europe Festival in Schladming, and perform in Salzburg (birthplace of Mozart)! We would experience musically rewarding, culturally enlightening, and truly fun sightseeing in Vienna, Salzburg, and Schladming, Austria, as well as Munich, Germany!

This 11-day tour is an opportunity of a lifetime! The cost, which includes air fare, 10 hotel nights, all festival, workshop and performance expenses, all breakfasts, all dinners, two lunches, tour coaches, and multi-lingual tour guides, is approximately $4,300 per student. This price is an estimate and also does not include most lunches or spending money.

Hopefully, by planning over a year in advance, we can make this trip happen.

Parents and participants are invited to attend a meeting on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 7 p.m., where World Projects, the tour group handling the details, will provide a presentation on the trip. Packets containing the itinerary, trip costs, and necessary forms will be distributed.

Be prepared to pay a non-refundable $200 deposit to secure space on this trip for the participant. (Please note, while the deposit is non-refundable, we have had instances in the past where a student who was not able to participate was replaced by another student, so that the non-participating student’s family was refunded. However, this is not guaranteed.)

To be eligible to participate in this trip, participant must either be:

1) A student who has auditioned into the 2013-2014 Wind Ensemble; or

2) A junior or senior in the 2013-2014 Symphonic Band.

Invited students are also required to maintain a 2.0 GPA, and cannot receive suspensions or expulsions during the 2013-2014 school year.

I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting on January 16th! Please do not hesitate to call or email me with your questions and comments.

Sincerely,

John Burn

JAZZ DANCE OPPORTUNITY

(May Zheng)

The organizers of Lynbrook's popular Blue Pearl jazz dance have invited Homestead students who are interested in bringing jazz dances to Homestead to shadow their planning meetings as well as the actual dance, which will be on Saturday, April 27 in the evening.

Email May Zeng at mayzeng29@gmail.com if interested!

INSTRUMENTS AND LOCKER ROOM

(Vicki Feltman)

Happy New Year!

Apparently my notice did not get out soon enough for everyone to notice, so I will repeat the warning with an updated drop dead date (see below).

In a word, EWWWWW.

Now that I have collected all or most of the marching horns, there should be no excuse for leaving instrument cases strewn all over the floor.

I think our custodial staff refuses to set foot in the room for fear of being attacked by something hiding in the piles of cases.

They need to have access to clean up the mess.  Please remove all your instruments from the locker room floor and put them in your lockers or turn in a request for a locker (space might be freed up now that marching horns are gone).   Anything I find lockerless will be removed to a safe spot beginning Monday, January 14th  Consider… what’s worse?  You putting your instrument away, or having to ask Mrs. Feltman if she stored your instrument?  Think hard!

Contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if you have questions.

VOLUNTEER FOR SANTA CLARA VANGUARD & EARN MONEY TOWARD BAND FEES

(Rita Allen)

Homestead Band parents and adult family members and friends may volunteer at the Santa Clara Vanguard Bingo nights. The person volunteering must be 18 years or older.

For each night you volunteer, you will earn $51 toward your student’s scrip account (and additional $9 will go into the Booster general fund). Money in your scrip account can be used toward paying any allowable band costs.

Sign up for a bingo time slot via Vanguard’s on-line registration system. Please check their website frequently: http://www.scvanguard.org/about/events/.

Important

  • Please note all the dates that you are requesting in the comments section, of the volunteer information pop-up form instead of clicking on all the dates.
  • Once you have submitted, you are not confirmed until you receive a Google invite for the dates that you are confirmed with, so please watch your spam.
  • The volunteer # calculator is done manually so even if it states (5) openings there may be zero.
  • If you don’t receive a Google invite that means that you are on the waitlist.

In order to get proper credit for your time worked, you must:

·         Be sure to indicate you are with the Homestead HS Music Boosters. There are other Homestead organizations that participate as well.

·         Please notify the HHSMB Assistant Treasurer, Rita Allen (allen.rita@gmail.com ). Let her know who is volunteering (names of each individual) and whose scrip account should be credited for the time worked.
