10-24 HHSMB Blast Oct 24

HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC BOOSTER BLAST!

October 24, 2012

All marching band and color guard are expected to participate at each competition.  Contact Mr. Burn immediately if you will NOT be attending this weekend.

Please contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if your student will NOT be on the bus going to Southern California, or if your student will NOT be coming back on the bus.  We don’t want to waste time waiting for someone who won’t show up at bus departure. If you are picking up your student, we want to make eye contact with both parent and student before you leave so that we make sure everyone has hooked up.  We would hate to have a student THINK their parent was picking them up, only to have them end up standing in an empty parking lot long after everyone else has left.

NEW NEWS:

WANTED -  PARENTS!!

(Vicki Feltman)

Carpools for this weekend - We have parents who would like to carpool to BOA/Disney this weekend.   Please contact me at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if you want to hook up with someone else and share the drive/cost/good times.

Hotel Bed Check – I need parents willing to knock on 3 or 4 doors to count noses and let students know the info to get them going for the next morning.  We meet in my room every night before bed check to discuss what needs to be passed on to students (we also make sure you are provided with plenty of See’s candies to help you thru your rounds).  This duty will require at most an hour of your time, depending on how long it takes us to stop laughing and partying before we go make our rounds.   Bed check time depends on what time we get into the hotel each night.  Bed check parents will also help with final room check on Monday morning, where students are released from their rooms to go to the bus.  It means looking around the student’s room to make sure nothing is left behind, and releasing them if their suitcases are packed and ready to go.   Easy Peasy duty.   Please let me know if you can help!

BUDDY BAGS

DON’T GO OVERBOARD

(Vicki Feltman)

PARENTS - It is not required, first of all.  It is especially not required to buy everything listed.  Please use a little common sense when purchasing items for these buddy bags.  It is way over the top to put a 2-liter bottle of any beverage, or a 6-pack, or case of liquid in a bag.   Also consider there is absolutely no refrigeration on the bus or at the competition, so sending any kind of dairy product, spinach dip, etc.  will just lead to spoiled food, which unfortunately, might be eaten by some hungry teenager who is clueless about bacteria growth in hot buses (especially if they dig in after the competition on the way home).

STUDENTS – Limit the size of your bags to a SMALL grocery bag.  We will not allow boxes and oversized bags on the buses because there is no room to store them.  All aisles in the buses must be kept clear.  It would be pretty sad to have your buddy bag left in the garbage at Homestead because it’s too big.

BUDDY BAG GUIDELINES

(Mr. and Mrs. Lamarche)

Marchers...

This Saturday is the first road-trip band competition, and that means Buddy Bags...

They're Fun, They're Festive, They're Full of... STUFF.

In our attempt to minimize the marching band's impact on land-fill, please consider the following when you request or gift into a Buddy Bag:

1. Paper products and food are compostable.  Please consider food products that are packaged in paper or paper products.  That way any waste is entirely compostable.

2. Plastics are recyclable IF they are pretty clean.  So plastic wrap on a messy muffin will probably mean the wrap, and the half eaten muffin end up in the landfill.  If you have plastic products consider how you can sort them out after you're done with them, and if the plastic can be kept reasonably clean (plastic drink bottles are OK if you empty it out).

3. Styrofoam is still not recoverable.  And it's REALLY bad in the land fill.  Quite possible that any styrofoam you trash today will have to be cleaned up by some future generation.  So... just try to avoid styrofoam.

We hope Buddy Bags bring out the creativity in everyone this year, and make for great bus trips.  Thanks for your help in considering the full life of the products in them!

CONCESSION PRE-ORDER FORM DUE OCTOBER 31st

(Leissa Hartlage)

Another home football game is coming up soon – Homestead v. Wilcox is Friday, November 2nd. The deadline for the concession pre-order form is Wednesday, October 31st at 8:30PM.

The form can be downloaded from the HHSMB website at http://www.hhs.fuhsd.org/mbmain - go to the Forms page and download the Concession Pre-Order Form.

Please return the completed Concession Pre-Order Form, along with a check, to

Ms. Vicki Feltman’s box.  You may place an order for one or more football games at any time.

As a reminder, pre-order food tickets will be found in the marchers' hat boxes AFTER they have performed their half time show. PIT and TUBAS will have their tickets taped to the side of their uniform cart. If a marcher's hat box is not in its proper cubby their tickets will also be taped to the side of the cart. Guard will have tickets distributed to them. If there are any problems with tickets on game night, please see an adult at the pre-order table (beneath the home bleachers).

ATTENTION TO ALL FAMILIES WHO OWN A ¾-TON TRUCK

(Angela Richards)

With one exception, drivers who pull trailers carrying our uniform/equipment trailers are either parents whose kids are graduating this year, or parents of kids who have already graduated.  WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF DRIVERS FOR OUR OUT-OF-TOWN COMPETITIONS.  If you own a ¾-ton truck, and have experience hauling a 16’ and/or 24” trailer, please contact John Baltazar at johnb.hts@gmail.com to join the crew.  This would be an invaluable service for Homestead’s Marching Band and Color Guard.

Please note that ANYONE can help load or unload the truck and trailers both before we leave Homestead, or upon our return.  We are also always looking for parents willing to push PIT (front ensemble) equipment both on and off  the field.  Please consider joining this lively and fun group of volunteers!
